Discover a world of possibilities
My name is Sofia, and I’m currently in secondary school, studying for my GCSEs.
I have a passion for English literature and immersing myself in reading at the same time.
My dad tells me that when his mother – my late Nana Elsie – was young in the early 1930s, she was often unwell. In a time long before smartphones or television, she spent many days stuck in bed, passing the hours by reading whatever books she could get her hands on. Walking to a library to get five books for the following five days.
Sometimes I wonder if that’s where my love of reading comes from.
There’s something comforting about being absorbed in a good book – whether I’m at home, in a bookshop, or curled up in a quiet café.
Reading is more than just a hobby for me; it’s a way to explore new worlds, understand different lives, and make sense of my own thoughts and questions.
To buy second-hand books and smell what others have once enjoyed, ready to pass on to others for a similar purpose; or to buy new and read an introduction written by someone who was once also engrossed in the novel.
Over the past few years, I’ve kept a list of the books I’ve read (though I’m sure I’ve missed a few from when I was younger), which I started in October 2024.
